Meijer Joseph de Jonge, alias: Rintel, died 1 Jul 1760 Amsterdam, son of Joseph Isaac de Jonge and Edel Joseph Levie
20 Feb 1758, Notaris Geniets 13552/88: After working together for many years as Joseph Isaac de Jonge & Son, Joseph and his son Meijer now make a contract to form a Company under the same name, for divers merchandise. The balance shows that Meijer s interest in the firm is 50000.- guilders. Office, Cash and Books will be kept in Josephs house, every year in February or March the balance of the account will be made up. If Joseph dies before Meijer the whole firm will become Meijers property , nothing excluded.

On wednesday the 25th of June 1760 at half past eleven in the morning, Meijer Joseph de Jonge, at his home at the BinnenAmstel between Kerkstraat and Nieuwe Princengragt, his body unwell, but his mind, memory and speech are sound, has his Will dr awn up by Notaris Geniets and witnesses (13566/443), and before that an agreement between him and his son Isack (13566/442).
The agreement: starting on the day of Meijers death a Company will be set up between his widow Eva Ezechiel Cohen and his son on the following conditions:
The company will be run by Isack. As long as 10 or more children are under age and unmarried the profits will be equally shared between Eva and Isack. After that, for every child that dies, marries or comes of age, 10% of Eva's half of the profit s will be deducted and go to Isack. The company will exist as long as there are minor unmarried children.
If Eva remarries while one or more of the children are minors, she will not receive any profits anymore, they will be used by the guardians on behalf of the minors.
Finally, if Edel Joseph Levij, mother of Joseph Isaac and grandmother of Isack Meijers decides not to go and live with Eva or Isack, she will receive 8 guilders weekly, as long as she lives, out of the Company's profits.

In his Will he bequeaths 50 guilders to the Jewish school named Talmuth Torah Echayn, and 50 guilders to the one named Magadele Setomom.
To his mother, Edel Joseph Levij, widow of Joseph Isaac de Jongh, during her whole life, 8 gld each week.
Out of the very first money that will be available from his estate 10000 gld shall be paid to his wife, to compensate what she had brought in at the marriage. Also he bequeaths to her all her personal clothes, jewels, gold and silverwork, and unti ll she remarries, otherwise during her whole life, the use of all furniture, household goods and silverware.
His children are his sole heirs, all of them, in equal shares. The money or goods that was received by those who married before his death will be deducted from their share.
After the seven days of mourning, and also 4 weeks after his death, his wife and son Isack shall distribute to the poor as much as his name Mayer means in Jewish numbers: 251 schellingen.
Finally, as executors of his will, his burial, administrator of his estate and guardians of his minor children he appoints wife, his son Isack and Mr Thomas van Zon, former vice-president Schepen of this City and administrator of the Amsterdam Cha mber of the Dutch East-Indies Company.

D.E. Cohen, in his Geschiedenis van de familie Cohen mentions she married her brother in law Moses Joseph de Jong after her first husband died. No further details. As children with Meijer Joseph he only lists Ezechiel, Izak, Pierette and Lion .
It is very clear in the testament of.Meijers parents (Notaris Geniets, 1758, act 92) that they only had one son, Meijer, and one daughter, Pes.
When daughter Sara married in Nov 1770 and son Ezechiel in Sep 1771 Eva was living in Metz. On 16 Nov 1769 an Eve Cahen, widow of Mayer Rintel from Amsterdam married Jacob Elie Terquem.
However, in the notarial acts between 1764 and 1772 concerning her children receiving their fathers inheritance, Eva is described as "Eva Ezechiel Cohen formerly widow of Meijer Joseph de Jonge, now wife of MOSES JOSEPH". On 11 Nov 1772 a not e in the margin of one of those documents states that she had died by then.

Newspapers in 1775 show him as broker in the sales of bonds and of plantations in Suriname. In 1779 Ezechiel, makelaar (broker) and Annatje who had co mmunity of property, living in the Jodenkerkstraat near the Amstel, appear before the Desolate Boedelkamer for having a problem paying off debts, their goods are sequestered for a short time untill an accord was accepted by the Boedelkamer and th e creditors,, The Amsterdam Jew Ezechiel de Jonghe (born abt 1745) took residence in Oostende in 1781. Already in November 1781 he got, on his own request, citizens rights, and thus was one of the first Jews in Belgium that benefited from the "Judenreform" an d the "Toleranzpatent" of Jozef II. On 18th October 1782, in spite of his Jewish religion he was appointed as sworn broker in colonial goods and tobacco. Ezechiel de Jonghe (married to Annaatje Pieck, 6 children) got involved in a court case abou t forged bars of gold. He was arrested in September 1786, but was released in January 1787, for lack of evidence. (Het proces Ezechiel de Jonghe, Tatiana Seegers, unpublished dissertation, based on a large bundle of documents in the Gent Archives) .
I found several adverts in Dutch newspapers between 1784 and 1786 showing him as a broker in Oostende (textiles, coffee, tea, tobacco), and a later one in the Times of 29 apr 1791: "At Ostend, Ready to sail for Bengal, about the 10th June. Also showed them as security the money orders drawn by the original claimant. To which the answe r was given: These I do not have in my possession. I, Notary, then went to the house of Mr Thomas Thompson, also living here, and asked him if he had the goods. He answered: I did not receive these yet, but I expect them from Mr Bell. The Notar y then goes on how he warned Mr Thompson, if these bales, in case he would receive them, or already had, were sent out without consent of the claimant or without him knowing ... etc etc.
