Introduction
As starting point for the description of the Jewish community Nijmegen served the registration of the adoption or conservation of the surnames and the family book (RBS 1228). For the formation of the families   is made use of the register of circumcision (RBS 1229 and 1230), the book of the graveyard (RBS 1231) and the registration of the deceased by the townhall (RBS 1261 till 1263). The marriages are described in “The protocol concerning the marriage of the Jews in Nijmegen” (RBS 1232) and in the marriage-books of the townhall from 1796 till 1810 (RBS 1233 till 1247).
A second important point was, that there must be demonstrable traces of a family in Nijmegen and surroundings before 1811. The “List of all inside Nijmegen living Jews made by the leaders of the Jewish community ordered by the mayors of the town Nijmegen” (OAN 681) is of great importance.
The description ends around 1811, that is to say the children, born after 1811, out of a family who already has children before 1811, are mentioned too. As an enlargement you will find data of Jews, who lived in Nijmegen before 1811 and went to other places.

Inleiding
Als uitgangspunt voor de beschrijving Van de Joodse gemeente Nijmegen diende het register Van naams-aanneming en -behoud en het gezinsboek (RBS 1228). Bij het formeren Van de gezinnen is Van het besnijde-nisregister (RBS 1229 en 1230), het grafboek (RBS 1231) en de “Registers Van gequalificeerde lijken” (RBS 1261 t/m 1263) gebruik gemaakt. De huwelijken staan beschreven in “Het protocol aangaande het trouwen der Joden te Nijmegen 1776-1796” (RBS 1232) en in de boeken Van de huwelijkscommissarissen 1796-1810 (RBS 1233 t/m 1247).
Een tweede belangrijk punt was, dat er in Nijmegen e.o. voor 1811, aanwijsbare sporen door een gezin achtergelaten zijn. De “Lijst Van alle binnen Nijmegen woonachtige Joden, opgemaakt door de parnassijns der Joodse gemeente op last Van de burgemeesters der stad Nijmegen” (OAN 681) is hierbij Van belang.
De beschrijving eindigt bij 1811, d.w.z. de kinderen, geboren na 1811 uit een gezin, waarin voor 1811 al kinderen geboren zijn, zijn wel opgenomen. Als uitbreiding treft u ook gegevens aan Van Nijmeegse Joden, die voor 1811 in Nijmegen leefden en  naar elders vertrokken zijn.
