Jacob Heiman Cohen (Cohn), birth 22 Nov 1818 Rotenburg, Germany, died 20 Sep 1900 New York, NY, son of Heimann Levy Cohn and Henriette Hiegentlich Sigrid Peters states (http://www.rotenburg-verden.vvn-bda.de/schwerp/gescha/rowschr2.shtmll) that the 1819 Rotenburger Burgerliste has the name of Jacob Heinemann Cohn but this date cannot be correct since Jacob could not be a citizen at age 1. (Sh e probably has it confused with 1849). 1849 Rotenburger Burgerliste, (Sigrid Peters, Op. Cit.) lists the name of Jacob Heinemann Cohn. 11/8/1851 application ("Acta, betreffend das Gesuch des Israeliten Jacob Heimann Cohn aus Rotenburg sic h in Rotenburg selbstandig zu besetzen und verheiraten zu durfenØ/Concerning the request of the Jew, Jacob Heimann Cohn of Rotenburg to live, work and marry there 1851-53, Rep. 74 Rotenburg Nr. 1143, State Archive Stade) states that he was bor n 22/11/1818 in Rotenburg. 1851 Rotenburg Judische Personenstandlisten, (29781) states tha t he was born 11/1818; 1900 death certificate (Jacob H CohnØ, Op. Cit) stated that he was 81 years, 9 months and 28 days old at the time of his death (b.12/1818). It also states that he was buried at Machpelah Cemetery in NY. Married 6 Nov 1851 Rotenburg, Germany to: Sara Masee, birth 1816 Hamburg Germany, died before 1900 New York, NY 1870 US census (NY, NY, Ward 11, District 24, line 38, Jacob CohnØ) states that she was 46 (b.1823/24) born in Prussia. 1880 US census (NY, NY, ED 275, p. 24, line 20, Jacob CohenØ) states that she was 52 (b.1827/28). 1900 US census (NY , NY, ED 932, Sheet 6B, line 92, Jacob H. CohenØ) and 1900 death certificate (Manhattan, 20/9/1900, Jacob H CohnØ, 3) state s that she was the daughter of Isack Masee and Johanne Moller ; her daughter, Minnies 1879 marriage certificate (28/12/1879, NY, NY, Minnie CohnØ) states that her mothers maiden name was Masse; her daughter Sophias 1876 marriag e certificate (NY, NY, 13/2/1876, Sofie CohnØ) gives her mothers maiden name as Massah. |
