Emanuel Salomon DE GROOT, birth 1 Apr 1810 Wierden, died 17 Dec 1898 Almelo, occupation: pedlar,merchant, son of Salomon Josepf DE GROOT and Martha HEIMANS
Was reserve officer in Dutch rmy since 15.5.1830-1.8.1839.
Participated in Holland-Belgium war from his encampment in "Vesting Grave". Like all combatants in "Veldtocht van Hasselt" 1830/1831, received distinction "Metal Cross" on 5.4.1832.

He was a pedlar/merchant of textiles but first mention of "Fa. E.S. de Groot, Manufacturen en Tricotage" I found in smallguidebook Almelo, published in 1914 (16 years after his death).
The company "Fa E.S. de Groot Manufactuern Engros" which occupied since 1900 a building in centre of town (Markt) was established by his son.
