They were daughters of Otto Ludwig vo n Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg auf Neudeck, grandfather of the later Reichspraesident.

Quoting the "Posener Tageblatt", about the late president von Hindenburg: His father Robert von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, deliberatel y chose to serve with a Posen regiment, because his sisters lived there, who had married the medical Dr E Cohen. "Attempts to have his name changed to "von Hindenburg" were unsuccessful. But Dr. Cohen was permitted to adopt the additional name "van Baren". The last of his sons, a high-ranking judge in East Prussia, was permitted to drop the name Cohen and fr om then on was known as "van Baren" only.
