Myer purchased hides (cattle, beaver, etc.) from trappers. His sons assisted in their early years salting the hides. The hide business was shortly abandoned. Myer was an honorary member of the Rotary Club and a director of the Eaton County Savings Bank,. Arthur Vomberg closed his retail store in 1958 and became partner with a friend in the manufacturing ofdoors, windows and related products, which grew to a large facility, eventually employing 500 people and having a turnover in excess of 20 0 M. annually. The business was sold in 1992. Both had promised their parents only to marry Jewish girls, and remained single all their lives. Charlotte had no Jewish community. . Upon his death Arthur, not having knowledge of any relatives, left his whole estate in a foundation which was set up to provide education to Eaton County students, |
