This tends to sound true as the age of Sara when marrying would have been 11. Further information received from Harold M. Chumaceiro by email. Information received from Penha is that Hanna was born 13 Jun 1839 and died 18 Apr 1911 in Amsterdam. I tend to go with the information I have curently. From the information of Geneanet, I understand that you are studying the genealogy of Vas(z) Dias. I have been studying the genealogy of my family the Mendes Chumaceiro family. In my records I have registered 2 Vas Dias married to Mendes Chumaceiro as follows: Sara Vas Dias, born in Amsterdam on February 11, 1841, died in Amsterdam on May 28, 1907. She married in Amsterdam on August 17, 1871 Aron Mendes Chumaceiro, b. in Amsterdam on January 28, 1810 and died there on September 18, 1882. They had thre e children, Benjamin Aron, Movito (still born) and Moise (also still born). Benjamin Aron was born in Amersfoort, Holland on February 9, 1873 and died in Amsterdam on May 3, 1920. He married Mindele Monas in Amsterdam on November 1, 1882. Hara (maybe Hana) Vas Dias, daughter of Aron Jacob Vas Dias. No dates for her. She married Jacob Mendes Chumaceiro in Amsterdam on February 9, 1861. He was born on March 11, 1833 and died on February 6, 1900. He is a son of the above mentionAro n Mendes Chumaceiro in his first marriage to Abigael Lopes Cardoso. Maybe we are investigating the same persons. Child 11 (Lea Hanna) is reported as having a date of birth of 1852. She is reported to have married in 1861. This makes her 8 yras old at marriage. This simply ca nnot be. So we are still investigating this. Information I have received from Rosario Mendes-Chumaceiro states: 'Jacob and Lea were born in 1833 and 1834 respectively and not as 1852 as stated by Carel Vas Dias. This tends to sound better, but for me the jury is still out. |

One of their sons was Haham Salomon Rodrigues Pereira and he was Chief Rabbi in both Amsterdam and Den Haag. He served in the Prinses Irene Brigade during the WWII. Another son, Joseph Rodrigues Pereira became a dentist in Haarlem. He married Sophia COLACO OSORIO. Their son Hans Rodrigues Pereira was also a Rabbi in Amsterdam and currently serves as the care-taker of the Spanish and Portuguese Cemetry(Bet h Haim) in Oudekerk. I then wen t to the JOS calendar converter on the JewishGen site, and it spit out February 26, 1834. |
