11) Jozef VAS DIAS, birth 29 Aug 1855, died 4 Mar 1928, buried 7 Mar 1928 Beth Haim Joost Vas Dias tells the story that his grandfather, Jozef, spelled his name with an S instead of a Z. It is also true of Andre and Henry, Samual's sons. His father used to say that the Vaz Dias's living in The Hage changed it to distinguish th emselves from the those living in Amsterdam. In those days people in The Hague considered themselves a cut above anybody else in the netherlands. He supposes that his great grandfather changed the name. Jozef was very clever at devicing puzzles, which he published from his printing plant. People called him Joop and his nickname was 'Puzzel Joop'. Proprietor of 'Vas Dias & Hoogezand' in Amsterdam.
