He studied music under Dr. Joseph Joachim at the Royal High School for Music. In 1883 Isidore was appointed professor of violin at the Academy of Music in Amsterdam.On February 21, 1889 he played with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam the Ouverture Gysbrecht van Aemstel. He was 1st violonist of that orchestra from 1-10-1888 till 1-6-1890. In 1894 he became instructor in violin at Yale University, was the Department of Music professor at Yale University and was also one of the directors of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. He was the associate director of the Dessauer-Troostwyk School of Music. Erna studied piano under Karl Pohlig, a pupil of Franz Liszt., She was a composer of classical music, taught piano and won the Bridgeport Centennial March Competition at Yale University for one of her compositions. Her brother Professor Max Dessauer was educatedat the Royal Conservatory of Music studying piano, taught piano and was a conductor of music. He was the conductor of the New Haven Municipal Band.
