MOZES (MAUP LEUW) LEUW, birth 21 Nov 1915 AMSTERDAM, died 01 Jan 1997 GREAT BRITAIN, Norwich area, occupation: SLAGER, lives: , Tijdens verloving., son of SALOMON LEUW and BETJE DE WOLF He left Holland in 1938 after an incident in Zutphen which involved local & German Nazi members and rashly decided to enlist in the French foreign legion ,where he spent the next 5 years . On completion of the 5 year term he came to England and enlisted in the Free Dutch Forces and was a rear gunner inthe Air Force at RAF Swanton Morley in Norfolk. He survived many missions over Holland ,Belgium & Germany and was with the forces until it was disbanded in 1946. He had met his second wife in 1943,and was married at East Dereham in Norfolk in 1944, where the eldest son ( Louis Maup ) was born in 1945.(26thJuly). In late 1946 they returned to Holland and lived in the centre of Amsterdam , where he and a business partner ran a resturant,called appropriately "The Flying Dutchman " ,during their tenure here the second sonwas born,(Alfred Rudy, on July 17th 1947).He found it difficult to settle in Holland after the war and they retuned to England in 1949 ,settling down in the Norwich area, and he stayed here until his death on 1st January 1997. He and his second wife divorced in the 1970s and he married for the 3rd time at the end of that decade ,both of the last 2 marriages were outside of the Jewish faith ,as he lost his interest in religion after the war. As his son related, he did not talk much about his past until he was quite old,allthough they new about his 1st marriage to Sarah and about Salomon,I think he always felt guilty about not being in Holland when the war started and the occupation of the country.
