When Thea was a young woman she decided to go to Palestine with the notion of building a Jewish homeland. She told her father, who was the Treasurer of the Hague, "I am going to Palestine to build a Jewish homeland." Her father retorted: "Thea, wh y don't you wait until things quite down." If she had waited until things quieted down, she would never have gone. She did go in the late 1920s. (Miriam knows more of this history). As told to Michael Kurtzig on a visit by Thea and Miriam Bythine r to our home in Falls Church, Virginia in the 1980s.
